The Biological Sciences Department offers a variety of life science courses required by many of the college's programs as well as honors classes for interested students. Faculty emphasize critical thinking and biology content through lectures, active learning exercises, and laboratory work.
Students taking Biological Sciences classes work to build a foundation of knowledge by exploring biological concepts while developing new laboratory skills. Learners can elect to work with professors one-on-one or in small groups to complete faculty or student designed research projects approved through the Creative Inquiry program. Interested students use scientific research methods to investigate approved topics in depth and may submit projects to the GTC Student Scholar Showcase held in April each year, and to the SC Upstate Research Symposium at USC Upstate.
