The field of human services includes a variety of positions that primarily provide support to others going through difficulties, either by working directly with a client or by assessing the need and determining the resources that would provide the most benefit.
The Human Services program at Greenville Technical College provides training and education to develop entry-level professionals that can provide client services in the human services arena. Course instruction is provided by seasoned professionals both in and out of the classroom. Field placements at area agencies are also an integral part of the educational experience to help you practice your skills and obtain real-life experience.

REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE: FIELD PLACEMENT
A major component of the associate degree in Human Services is the field placement. Students will work at an HUS approved agency during their last semester before graduation for a total of 125 hours. Students will work with the field placement instructor to determine their best agency choice.

Associate in Applied Science
This program prepares graduates for entry into any one of many "helping" professions. The program is designed to provide the necessary theoretical and practical skills to enable graduates to provide basic human service care. This program is of interest to those who wish to provide direct (non-medical) care and to those who are interested in counseling, social work, psychology, or public agency administration.
A criminal background check is a course requirement of HUS 231. All students are required to give potential field placement agencies copies of their criminal background checks. Some agencies will not accept students with a criminal record. We do our best to find field placements for all of our students while realizing that the criminal background check will also be a factor for future employment.
